missdavinalee

missdavinalee is a UK indie pop and indie group associated with songwriter Davina Lee Cooke, who comes from North West London. Cooke grows up listening to Madonna and Salt n Pepa, and later turns to guitar after hearing Nirvana and PJ Harvey.

Formation and early work

Before missdavinalee takes shape, Cooke plays with Florence and the Machine harp player Tom Moth under the name The Dave Browns. That project is described by reviewers as anti-folk and ends in 2006. missdavinalee then forms when Cooke meets Roald, Gareth, Angus and Jenny through chance and at university.

Releases and activity

The group releases its first single, Come On, on Helix Records. It tours the UK, plays its first festival, and later establishes its own label, Smooth Exchange. The debut album, This Love, is released in January 2012.

In October 2012, Cooke travels to Norway with Gareth and Roald and records 11 songs in 10 days for a second album, Hulder. The act remains active from 2008 to the present.
