Misled

Misled is a California punk band from Modesto. The group is active under the name MiSLeD in Johannesburg, South Africa as a four-piece formed in 2002, and its line-up remains unchanged with Steph on lead vocals, Ivor on guitar, Damiano on bass and Pickle on drums. It also appears under the name Misled in other contexts, including a separate rock and metal band from Pennsylvania, a hardcore band from Belgium, and a California punk band entry from Modesto.

Releases and activity

MiSLeD’s first release is a 13-track self-titled DIY CD that appears in early 2003 and presents the band’s raw sound. The following year and a half is spent developing new material, leading to a first official album, The Demeaning Of Life, released in June 2005 and recorded at B# Sharp Studios with JP De Stefani engineering. The album is followed by a music video for the single “words that pave your way”. In 2006 the band releases the seven-track EP DisCovering Incarnation, which is nominated for a SAMA and is issued on the SEED label, part of Sheer Sound.

Later work and performances

Misled tours extensively in South Africa, plays many major festivals to large crowds, and completes a German tour in September 2006 under Roadshock management. It also performs at Popkomm in Berlin, representing South Africa and supported by SAMEX, the South African Music Export Council. After a brief break, the band returns with new material for an EP and album pair: the EP only the blind can taste is released in August 2009 and shows a harder punk direction, and the album Only the Deaf are Safe follows in September 2012.

Other Misled releases

A separate Misled recording, Time To Play, is credited to a rock and metal band from Pennsylvania, with Dave Arneli on bass and vocals, Mike Cavello on drums, Brian Fitch and D.J. Sansky on guitar, and Kevin Locker on vocals and guitar.
