Misconduct

Misconduct is a Swedish hardcore punk group from Kristinehamn, formed in 1995. The original line-up consists of Fredrik “Ollo” Olsson on vocals, Martin “Mört” Roed on guitar, Daniel Andersson on bass and Jonas “J.C.” Carlsson on drums. The band works in hardcore punk and punk, with a melodic hardcore punk approach.

Early releases and line-up changes

The group records its first demo, Like the old days, several months after forming. It contains seven short hardcore tracks and attracts the attention of Bad Taste Records. Misconduct then appears on the compilation This is bad taste - the ultimate punk party with the songs “Lack of knowledge” and “…of today”.

The band records the EP A change in Studio Underground, Västerås, in December 1996, and it is released in February 1997. After touring Europe with 59 Times The Pain, Misconduct records its first full-length album, ...Another time, in July 1997, also at Studio Underground. That album is released in September 1997.

In early 1998 the band records the 7" Signed in blood at Speedball Studios and releases it after a tour of Finland with Outlast. After another European tour, Daniel Andersson leaves the group and Mattias Nielsen joins on bass. Martin Roed then leaves and Fredrik Andersson joins on guitar, restoring the line-up with Olsson, Nielsen, Andersson and Carlsson.

Later recordings and touring

With the revised line-up, Misconduct writes and records nineteen songs in Studio Soundlab in December 1998 with Mattias and Miezko, known for work with Millencolin and Nasum. Bad Taste Records releases sixteen of these songs as A New Direction in February the following year.

After that album, the band tours Canada on the SnoJam 5 tour with Paget Williams and the Greenland Crew, and plays shows with acts including Satanic Surfers, Anti Flag, Gob, 88 Fingers Louie, AFI and Chixdiggit. A planned European tour with Madball and a separate UK tour are cancelled after Jonas Carlsson leaves the band. The group then returns with Martin Jansson on guitar, Dan Nilsson on bass and Henke Bergström on drums as a temporary solution before Mattias Pettersson becomes the new drummer.

Misconduct plays at Hultsfred and later joins the Bad Taste European Tour '99. The band then records seven new tracks at Rose Valley Studios with Hard Rock-Toby, which appear on a split CD with Toronto group Trigger Happy, released by Bad Taste in March 2000. It later tours with Adhesive and Astream on Boardfest 3 in eastern Canada, and records more material at TBV Studios with Lennart “LEONID” Karlsson using an analogue recording setup.

2000s activity

Misconduct tours widely across Scandinavia, Europe and North America with bands including Sick Of It All, Shelter, Slapshot, Anti Flag, Gob and Chixdiggit. In 2002 the band tours Europe, Canada, the UK twice and Scandinavia. In January 2003 it releases the three-song MCD New Beginning on Side By Side Records, and the label also issues videos for “New Beginning” and “Iron Lion Zion”. During the summer of 2003 the band tours Europe and Scandinavia and shares stages with Youth of Today, Hatebreed, Sick Of It All and 25 Ta Life.
