Million Dan

Million Dan is a UK hip-hop and ragga artist who first appears as part of the London crew Demon Boyz. The group forms in London, combines hip-hop with reggae-influenced styles, and builds a reputation through singles including Northside, Ruffer Than an Animal, Recognition, Vibes, International Karate, Dett and Glimity Glamity, as well as the albums Recognition and Original Guidance. The Demon Boyz tour internationally and perform alongside major names on the scene before the members go their separate ways.

Solo work

After leaving the group, Million Dan develops a solo career through underground circuits in the UK, Canada and Jamaica, where he gains a following for his distinctive vocal delivery. In 2004 he releases Dogz N Sledgez, a club track that brings him wider attention and leads to radio and television play across a range of outlets. He later receives nominations for several awards in the UK.

Record label

On returning to London, Million Dan sets up the independent label Million Dappa Records. He turns down offers from two major UK distributors, saying he prefers to work with a company that understands his specific market.

Style and reception

His work is associated with hip-hop, ragga, reggae and rock-influenced sounds, with a strong emphasis on energetic delivery and dancefloor appeal. Magazine comments quoted in circulation describe his tracks as forceful, energetic and characterised by rap-ragga tones and vivid lyrics.
