Milky Wimpshake
Milky Wimpshake are an indie pop group from Newcastle upon Tyne, active since 1993. They are also described as punk folk and twee skiffle, and their songs are often noted for wit, satire and a deliberately abrasive humour.
Releases
The group releases singles and compilation tracks on a range of indie labels. Their first full-length album is Bus Route To Your Heart (1998), issued on Pete Dale’s own Slampt label. Their second album, Lovers, Not Fighters, is recorded at First Avenue studio in Heaton and released in 2002 on Troubleman Unlimited in the United States. Their third album, Popshaped, is released in 2005 on Fortuna POP! in the UK and Europe.
Members and related projects
The group centres on Pete Dale, who sings and plays guitar. He is also associated with Razorblade Smile, Red Monkey, Chronicity and Pete Dale and The Beta Males. Christine plays bass and contributes backing vocals, and the drums are played by Ricky, who follows Joey Ramone, Grant Jones and Chris Lanigan, the latter also of Spraydog, in the role.
Scene and background
Milky Wimpshake are regarded by some as a key early influence on the North-East music scene. Through the Slampt organisation, Pete Dale is also linked with numerous fanzines and bands, including Kenickie.
