Miki Rose is a singer and songwriter based in Los Angeles, working in soul, electronic music and R&B. She is originally from the United States, and her early life and musical development move through several places, including Brighton in the UK, Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, Texas, Paris and Boston. She begins composing as a child in Kuala Lumpur, and a move to Texas at the age of 10 exposes her to American culture and to artists such as Erykah Badu and D’Angelo, shaping a neo-soul sensibility.

She studies at Berklee College of Music before leaving for New York City. After that, she works through a period of live residency gigs in Los Angeles, but becomes dissatisfied with the material she is performing and returns to songwriting. That shift leads to a search for a more direct and personal sound, with an emphasis on music that feels unfiltered by formal training.

Recordings and collaborators

Miki Rose releases her debut solo EP, XOXO, as part of that process. Before the EP, she puts out a series of “flips” written over beats from emerging producers that connect with her. With support from MOOVMNT, she meets like-minded musicians and later crosses paths with Darker Than Wax.

XOXO features her vocals over productions from the Darker Than Wax roster, including fzpz of Singapore, Giorgio Oehlers and KA-YU from the Netherlands, and Silo from Belgium. The EP uses neon synths, dreamy chords and swung rhythms, and combines those elements with a strongly soulful approach. The tracks are presented as complete songs rather than simple beats with vocals added, and the material reflects both her spontaneous songwriting style and her focus on artistic integrity.
