Mike Huckaby

Mike Huckaby is an American DJ and producer from Detroit, associated with deep house, electronic, house and techno. Born in 1966, he is a central figure in the Detroit dance music scene and is closely linked to the city’s club culture and record-buying network.

Detroit and Record Time

Huckaby is known for running the Record Time store in Detroit, where he builds an extensive knowledge of dance music and its history. He is described as a figure who understands the roots and culture of electronic dance music and works across the scene without separating it into trends or factions.

Production and labels

As a producer, Huckaby records for a number of labels, including Rick Wade’s Harmonie Park, London label Cross Section, and his own imprints Deep Transportation and Synth. Deep Transportation is also listed among his labels.

Other work

Alongside DJ and production work, Huckaby works as a sound designer and teaches software for Native Instruments and Ableton, including Reaktor and Live, in different parts of the world. He also contributes to the YouthVille project, a Detroit youth foundation initiative.

Death

Huckaby dies in 2020 following complications from a stroke.
