Mike Beck is a guitarist and songwriter from Monterey County, California. He performs with The Bohemian Saints, a band that also includes Tom Ayres on guitar, Marty Lydon on bass and Paul Montgomery on drums. The group has played together since 2002.

Background

Beck grows up in Monterey County and begins playing guitar after attending the Monterey Pop Festival at the age of 13. He writes and performs folk, rock and Americana songs, and his work draws on his life as a professional musician and as a working cowboy in Montana and Carmel Valley near Big Sur.

Mike Beck and The Bohemian Saints

The Bohemian Saints perform original material, much of it written by Beck. Their music reflects influences from the Byrds, the Burrito Brothers and the Rolling Stones, while their live shows are associated with the energy of the Grateful Dead. The group appears in bars, coffeehouses, folk clubs, schools, festivals and corporate events.

Radio and recognition

The band’s music is played on California’s KPIG stations and on the station’s internet service, as well as on NPR Radio, CBC, Sirius and the BBC. Two Beck songs, “In Old California” and “Don’t Tell Me,” appear in Western Horseman magazine’s list of the 13 best cowboy songs of all time.

Solo work

Beck also performs solo acoustic shows.
