Midnight Juggernauts

Midnight Juggernauts are an electronica and electropop group from Melbourne, Australia, active since 2004. The group consists of Andy Juggernaut, Vincent Juggernaut, Daniel Stricker and Andrew Szekeres. Their original lineup is described as Vincent Vendetta on vocals and keyboards, Andy Juggernaut on bass and vocals, and Daniel Stricker on drums.

Style and sound

The band work within alternative dance and synth pop, and are also associated with electro synth rock and electronica. Their music is described through a range of harder and more cinematic images, including dirty-organ-rock, stadium-disco-metal and sci-fi rollerskating jams. Their sound is also linked in description to Giorgio Moroder, ELO and John Carpenter, alongside a dark-future, 1970s Italian film aesthetic.

Releases

Midnight Juggernauts have released three albums: Dystopia, The Crystal Axis and Uncanny Valley. Dystopia is their debut album and is released in Australia on their own label, Siberia Records, with an international release following. The group also issues the EP Secrets of the Universe. Australian singles include “Raised By Wolves”, “Shadows”, “45 & Rising”, “Road to Recovery”, “20,000 Leagues” and “Into the Galaxy”.

Collaborations, remixes and compilation appearances

The band are invited by French act Justice to tour North America in late 2007 and appear at the CMJ music festival. They tour and perform with acts including !!!, Holy Fuck, Crystal Castles, Klaxons, Surkin, Cut Copy, Wolfmother, Death From Above 1979, Electric Six, Gerling, Pink Grease, Har Mar Superstar, Trans Am, Bloc Party and Justice. Their tracks appear on compilations including Modular’s Leave Them All Behind, FBI’s Kill Your Idols, Kitsune Maison 4, Tsubi DJ Kicks, Cut Copy’s Fabric release, Ministry of Sound’s Mashed 3 and Ajax’s Spin City.

They remix tracks for !!!, The Presets, Dragonette, Cut Copy, VHS or Beta, Electric Six, Sébastien Tellier, Damn Arms and CSS. Their own songs are also remixed by artists including Grandmaster Flash, Metromony, Shy Child, Danger, Architecture in Helsinki, Chateau Marmont, Knightlife, Ajax, Curses!, Cut Copy, David Rubato, D.I.M., M83, Bag Raiders, Spod, The Presets and members of Wolfmother.

Recognition

In 2007, Midnight Juggernauts are nominated for the J Award by Triple J for Australian album of the year. They also place twice in the Triple J Hottest 100 for 2007, with “Tombstone” at number 86 and “Into the Galaxy” at number 57.
