Mick Flannery

Mick Flannery is an Irish singer-songwriter from County Cork, Ireland, working in contemporary folk with acoustic and folk influences. Born in 1983 in Blarney, he grows up in a family with a strong interest in music and is introduced to folk and blues at a young age. He says he writes his first song at the age of fifteen.

Early work

While at school, Flannery forms a rock band called Black Orange with several local musicians. The group has only a sporadic live history and later goes its separate way. He later studies music and management at Coláiste Stiofáin Naofa in Cork, where he begins writing the album that becomes Evening Train.

Albums and recognition

Evening Train is an eleven-track concept album about two brothers and is released in 2007. It receives a positive response from critics in Ireland and the United States. Flannery’s second album, White Lies, is released in 2008, reaches the Irish Albums Chart top ten, later goes platinum, and is nominated for the Choice Music Prize. His third studio album, Red to Blue, follows in 2012.

Awards and standing

In 2009, Flannery is placed at number 46 in the Irish Times list of the 50 best Irish acts then active. In the same year, he wins Best Irish Male at the Meteor Awards.
