MIchael Wookey is a folk and indie-folk artist who lives in Paris. Born in 1983, he begins making songs after being given a portable pump organ that once belonged to his grandfather, who is an organist during World War II. That instrument leads him to start collecting unusual instruments and to build a style centred on keyboards, organs and other eccentric sounds.

Albums and instrumentation

Wookey records his first album, Dreams Of You, at the age of 20. It features mainly his collection of vintage organs and a large use of Casio keyboards. His second album, You Shield Me From Darkness, follows when he is 24 and includes a wider range of unusual instruments, among them an Optigan, a toy piano and an Omnichord, alongside his organs and Casios.

Style

In France, his music is described as folk baroque, a term used to suggest an unusual or eccentric form of folk music.
