MIAVA

MIAVA is an instrumental band from Lichtervelde, Belgium. It is active from 2009 to 2016 and is associated with post-rock, post-metal, instrumental music, doom metal and stoner rock. The group is also known under earlier and later names: it first uses the name Maria Isn't a Virgin Anymore, then becomes MIAVA, and later changes to Comet Street.

Releases and recording

In 2010, MIAVA records and releases a self-titled five-track EP through 195 Studios. After extensive live activity, the band begins work on a second EP, The Fall of Public Man, which helps bring it wider attention. This release is recorded at CCR Studios in Zulte. In September 2013, MIAVA releases its first full-length album, Essay On Bentham, on Rough Trade Records.

Later activity

In February 2016, the band goes on hiatus following the death of its drummer, Jelle Tommelyn. Some months later, the remaining members say it would not feel right to continue as MIAVA without him, and form a new group called Comet Street, named after the street where they rehearse as MIAVA. A later return of the MIAVA name takes place in 2019 with a new drummer.
