MIA KODEN, also known as Sancha Ndeko, is a South London-based South Sudanese and British music producer and DJ. She grows up in Ghana and Nigeria before moving back to the UK, where soundsystem culture shapes her early listening, including roots reggae, drum and bass and dubstep.

Background and development

During her university years in London, two Technics 1210 turntables arrive and she begins developing her work as a DJ and producer. Her record collection spans music from across the African continent and beyond, and she builds her style around underground electronic music and low-end sounds.

Sicaria Sound and solo work

Ndeko is part of the duo Sicaria Sound, where she makes a name for herself with forward-looking 140BPM music. Under the Mia Koden alias, she keeps the same emphasis on bass and percussion while moving in more varied directions. Her output includes a self-released debut EP and a release on Ilian Tape. She is also associated with Cutcross Recordings.

Style

Her music sits within electronic music, with connections to dubstep and dub, and it draws on a wide range of influences without staying within a single genre or tempo.
