Mia & The Moon

Mia & The Moon are a sibling duo from Leicester who perform folk and acoustic music with gospel influences. The pair begin singing together as toddlers at National Bluegrass Festivals, performing alongside their musical parents. Their father performs with Dolly Parton, and their mother, Kathy, writes a song called Kaleidoscopes, which later becomes the title of an EP by the duo.

Background and activity

The act is made up of sisters Mary-Anne and Laura. Their early musical experience comes from family performances and folk festival settings, and their style develops from these influences into a contemporary sound. They are described as unsigned.

Recording and releases

Mary-Anne’s songs Solitary Confinement and Scenario are remixed by Dutch producer Marco V in 2009 and reach the top ten of the dance chart through Radio 1 airplay. The duo also releases the EP Kaleidoscopes, which later is no longer available. A studio album is referenced in 2014, with a two-track preview made available online.

Other work and appearances

Laura performs internationally on luxury cruise ships, yachts and in hotels, and appears as a guest vocalist at the New Orleans Jazz Festival. The group’s live and recorded work is described in relation to folk festival roots, urban contemporary styles and gospel harmony. They are associated with support from music press and broadcasters including ITV, BBC Introducing Nottingham and Radio Cardiff, and Gary Barlow is quoted praising their five-part choir sound.
