Mgła

Mgła is a black metal group from Kraków, Poland, formed in 2000. Its name means “Fog” in Polish, and it works within black metal and depressive black metal, with a broader metal classification. The group is active from 2000 to the present.

Style and themes

Mgła uses rough, organic forms of expression within black metal. The project presents this approach as a matter of aesthetic conviction, with the sound chosen because it fits its intended vision. Its conceptual content ranges from nihilism to mysticism, and it offers comments rather than direct statements.

Live activity

For its first ten years, Mgła does not perform live and operates only as a studio project. Live appearances begin in 2012, after which the group performs roughly once a month. The live set-up is deliberately simple and avoids symbolism or interpretive cues, leaving listeners to respond without guidance.

Context

Mgła’s move to the stage follows a change in the relationship between it and Kriegsmaschine, when roles reverse and Mgła becomes the live band while Kriegsmaschine becomes more of a studio project. The number of performances remains limited, but higher audience interest than expected leads to more live activity than originally planned.
