Mezla is the alias of Colorado-based producer Thomas Smith. He is one of the first additions to the First-Caste Family and is active in the Colorado electronic scene, where he also serves as a mentor to younger producers.

He begins producing his own music after being inspired by electronic music and by the sounds of his environment. His tracks reflect that background, drawing on the sonic character of the places he has lived.

Sunny Spells

Mezla’s EP Sunny Spells gathers tracks made over several years. It reflects on the phrase “partly cloudy” as used in British weather forecasts and looks back to the period when he lives in England, where he absorbs the local electronic music scene. The release also connects with his experience of electronic music’s rapid development, including the rise of dubstep in the UK and its later spread in the United States.
