Mexican Institute of Sound

Mexican Institute of Sound, also known as Instituto Mexicano del Sonido, is the electronic project of Camilo Lara from Ciudad de México, Mexico. It begins in 2004 and is active as a one-man group centred on Lara’s production work and musical selections.

Lara also works as head of a major label, and the project grows out of his involvement with the underground música movement in Mexico City. He makes the music mainly with his computer and a large record collection, combining different references and styles into electronic tracks.

The project is known for Lara’s annual Christmas compilation, which gathers the year’s best tracks alongside unreleased Mexican Institute of Sound material and becomes a collector’s item among listeners.

Collaborations and remixes

Under the Mexican Institute of Sound name, Lara works on remixes for Placebo, Le Hammond Inferno, Gecko Turner, Babasónicos, Perez Prado, Mazarin, Quantic Soul Orchestra, Gershon Kingsley and Irving Fields.
