Methyl Ethel

Methyl Ethel is an Australian art rock band from Perth, Australia, led by Jake Webb. The group forms in 2013 and has a membership that includes Lyndon Blue, Moth Swatter, Jake Webb, Jacob Diamond and Chris Wright.

Formation and line-up

Webb previously plays in Sugarpuss, Rabbit Island and Grace Woodroofe before starting Methyl Ethel. He writes, plays and records everything on the album Oh Inhuman Spectacle after the early EPs Guts and Teeth. For live performances, he is joined by friends Chris Wright on drums and Thom Stewart on bass, with the project then growing into a live band.

Releases and recognition

Oh Inhuman Spectacle is shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize. The album is also released by 4AD in the UK. The band is associated with psychedelic, dream pop and indie rock, and its recorded work develops from the early EPs through to the full-length album.
