MetalS

MetalS is a Melbourne group made up of Christopher Coe and Candice Butler. Coe is a Melbourne-based producer, writer and DJ, and he has also recorded under the Digital Primate name for several years. One of his later releases under that alias, Keep Calm and Carry On, is mixed by The Mad Professor.

Butler is raised in South Australia. She is published as a poet at the age of 11 and spends her childhood performing on stage and television as a dancer and actor. She later develops an interest in hip-hop and neo-soul, performs with local musicians, and comes to the attention of Professor Griff of Public Enemy. That leads to live performances with Public Enemy during their Australian tour and then to a first demo session in Atlanta, produced by Professor Griff. She becomes involved in the alt-hip-hop and soul scenes, travels in the United States with Griff and Public Enemy, then returns to Australia and makes Melbourne her home. There she sings and works across a range of projects that move between rock, house, techno and deep funk.

After Butler is spotted MCing at an all-female hip-hop event in Melbourne, she is introduced to Digital Primate, and the two decide to write and record together as MetalS.
