Menace Beach

Menace Beach is an indie rock and noise pop group from Leeds, active since 2012. It begins as an off-shoot side project led by core members Ryan Needham and Liza Violet, and it develops into a revolving-line-up band with a connection to a number of other Leeds and UK acts.

Formation and members

The band forms in 2012 as a project for Ryan Needham, who is formerly the lead singer of Derby band Komakino, and Liza Violet, who is in Department M. Their line-up changes over time, but it regularly includes Nestor Matthews of Sky Larkin, Matt Spalding of You Animals and MJ of Hookworms. Other musicians associated with the group include members from Seize The Chair, Sky Larkin, Pulled Apart By Horses and You Animals.

Activity and releases

Menace Beach continues as an active group and has three studio albums to date. Because of the musicians involved, the band is often described as a supergroup.

Collaborations and appearances

The group has also played with Robert Lee of Pulled Apart By Horses and Paul Draper of Mansun. Draper contributes backing vocals and guitar on their BBC Radio 6 Music Marc Riley session.
