MEN

MEN is a Brooklyn-based band and art/performance collective associated with electro, indie, electronic and electro-pop. It begins in 2007 as a DJ, production and remix project led by JD Samson and Johanna Fateman, both from Le Tigre. As the project develops into a live band, it combines performance, dance music and political themes in its songs and stage work, including references to wartime economies, sexual compromise and demands for liberty.

Line-up and related projects

The core of the group consists of JD Samson, Michael O'Neill and Ginger Brooks Takahashi. O'Neill is also linked with Princess and Ladybug Transistor, while Takahashi is associated with LTTR and The Ballet. Fateman and artist Emily Roysdon contribute as writers, consultants and producers. Some 2012 releases appear under the name JD Samson & MEN.

Context

The name MEN is also used by several unrelated bands, including a Danish minimal wave act active from 1984 to 1987, a Norwich group later known as Big Success, a Spanish rock band from Mallorca, and a defunct Chicago post-punk band founded by Art MacQuilkin.
