Melic

Melic are a London-based four-piece rock band formed in late 2008. The group’s line-up brings together Andrew Coogan on drums, Mark Hitchcock on vocals and guitar, Steve Hitchcock on bass and vocals, and Romy Bylin on saxophone and keyboards. Their music draws on a mix of rock, metal, funk, classical and blues influences, reflecting the band members’ different musical backgrounds, including a metal drummer, a funk-rock bassist, a classically trained pianist and saxophonist, and a singer-songwriter guitarist.

The band records and releases material independently and launches its own website, melicband.com. It has issued two independently released EPs, including the 2010 four-track EP The Coal Pit Sessions. That release receives a five-star review from Alter the Press writer Dan Issitt. Melic signs to Beatnik Geek Records in February 2013.

Melic plays a range of London venues, including the 100 Club, the Borderline, Scala, Cargo, the Grand, Barfly and Punk. In the summer of 2012, the band tours New Zealand and then returns to the UK for a run of London Olympics dates. It resumes studio recording in October 2012 and completes its debut album, An Hour to Anywhere, in mid-2013. The album contains twelve tracks and is noted for combining the group’s varied influences into a cohesive whole, with “Nowhere I’d Rather Be” highlighted in The Independent.
