Melby

Melby is a Stockholm psych-pop group active since 2015. The band forms as a quartet and comes together while the members live in a shared house in Stockholm. The line-up consists of Matilda Wiezell on vocals, Are Engen Steinsholm on guitar, David Jehrlander on bass and Teo Jehrlander on drums.

Style and background

The group’s sound combines psych-pop with elements of folk, indie and pop, and it is also associated with dream pop, indie pop and indie rock. Their music is described as light, semi-psychedelic folk pop, driven by Wiezell’s vocals. Melby are often compared with Swedish acts such as Dungen and Amason, although their own sound is marked by a more varied blend of influences.

Releases

Melby first appear with the single Human in early 2016. In May 2017 they release their self-titled debut EP on Stockholm label Rama Lama Records. The EP includes the singles Cross and Pat, both of which draw positive attention in Sweden and internationally. One response to Cross describes it as “otherworldly, and wholly brilliant”.

Later activity

After the debut EP, the band continues working on new material in the studio.
