Melanie Williams

Melanie Williams is a British singer and songwriter associated with R&B, dance and pop. She first performs with Eric Gooden in the duo Temper Temper in the 1980s. The duo records Lovers & Gamblers, a track that narrowly misses being used for the television series Miami Vice, which instead uses Jan Hammer’s composition.

Temper Temper also releases a debut album that includes Beg or Plead. Williams writes lyrics based on real-life situations, and the album is recorded for Columbia.

Williams later writes an extra verse for Sub Sub’s Ain’t No Love Ain’t No Use, a track that reaches number 2 in the UK and number 1 in Australia. She is not able to include that version on her own album.

With Jo Roberts, she forms Dark Flower, later known as Bodhi. She also records a cover of Prince’s Adore with Roberts. Another of her songs, Terrified, receives praise from Jamiroquai.
