Mel Blue

Mel Blue is a Sydney group now based in London, made up of Oscar Sharah, Jacob Siles and Luke Gerber. The trio comes out of the Sydney music scene, where they start as high school bandmates, and they build a live and studio approach over several years. Their music draws on nostalgia and a sense of longing, combining retrospective feeling with modern electronic production.

Career

Between 2018 and 2022, Mel Blue releases a run of singles and the Sanctuary Point Pt. I EP. In 2022, they sign with Nettwerk and appear at Airfields festival, a line-up curated by Flight Facilities, alongside other Australian acts. Their debut album, Sanctuary Point, follows in 2023, after which they tour Australia’s east coast.

Sound and development

The trio’s sound connects dance music with reflection and forward movement, and they become increasingly associated with house music. They also develop a particular focus on the challenge of performing electronic music live. They say they are influenced by English and French electronic music, and their move to London in 2023 reflects that interest in European club history and sound.
