Medulla Nocte

Medulla Nocte is a metal and hardcore group from the United Kingdom, formed in 1992. The band develops around an aggressive sound shaped by Slayer and the heavier end of rock and metal, and it goes through several line-up changes before settling on Paul on vocals, Neil on guitar, Bones on bass and Jammer on drums. Paul Catten is the only member named in the verified facts.

Career

After forming, the band tours heavily across the UK, often playing small towns and sparse crowds. It records several demos that attract attention from music magazines such as Terrorizer. A deal follows with Household Name Records, leading to a single and an album.

The single All Our Friends Are Dead is released in June 1997 and receives recognition from Kerrang! and Metal Hammer. The band continues to tour extensively, moving between hardcore shows and rock audiences and sharing stages with acts including Strapping Young Lad, Entombed, Skinlab, Soulfly, Extreme Noise Terror and Logical Nonsense.

Albums and releases

A year after the single, the album A Conversation Alone is released and draws acclaim. The band then records a split EP with Freebase before signing with Copro. In June 2000, Dying From The Inside is released. The band is unhappy with the record, and Paul later says he does not listen to it after the day it is recorded.

Touring and split

Medulla Nocte continues to tour with acts including Raging Speedhorn, The Lost Prophets, The Haunted, Strapping Young Lad and Cradle of Filth. Its final show is supporting Conflict. The group then breaks up after internal problems and a fight over a blown fuse.

Aftermath

After the split, Jammer and Mark form Murder One, and Paul later joins them. Medulla Nocte is remembered as a major influence on the UK underground scene, and the band states that it will not reform.
