Meat Market
Meat Market is an indie rock and surf rock group from Oakland, California. The band forms in a college setting and plays raw, lo-fi music with garage rock and surf influences. Their songs are described as catchy and direct, with a sound that mixes surf-tinged guitar work and unpolished energy.
The group has multiple homosexual members. It appears on OutOfFocus TV’s web series American Music in Episode 5 and tours with FIDLAR. At the point described here, it has two releases available, and a third record, The Return of Prince Donathunn 7, is due next month. The band also spends its early years playing more than 30 house parties while forming in college.
Its songs include New Zealand, which features a striking guitar riff, and The Barn. The lyrics include references to California and to not surfing, which fits the band’s surf rock-adjacent image while keeping a dry, self-aware edge.
