Mazzy Star

Mazzy Star are an American alternative rock group from Santa Monica, in the United States. They form in 1988 from the remains of Opal, with David Roback as a founding member and Hope Sandoval joining as vocalist after Kendra Smith leaves Opal.

Career

The band’s creative core is David Roback and Hope Sandoval. Sandoval writes the lyrics, while Roback composes most of the group’s material. Mazzy Star are best known for “Fade Into You”, which becomes their biggest mainstream hit and brings them wider attention in the mid-1990s through heavy exposure on MTV, VH1 and radio.

Roback dies in Los Angeles on 24 February 2020 from metastatic cancer, but the group remains active. Their most recent studio album is Seasons of Your Day, released in 2013, and they follow it with the EP Still in 2018.
