Maztek is the alias of Matteo Cavo, an electronic music producer working in drum and bass and neurofunk. He is born in 1981 and is from Roma, Netherlands. The name is associated with the Italian drum and bass scene, where he starts out after moving from guitar and percussion into electronic music.

Career

Maztek begins his musical path as a lead guitarist and percussionist. At 18, he becomes strongly interested in techno and drum and bass and starts producing electronic music while playing in the Italian underground scene.

Subculture and label work

In 2005, he develops Subculture, first as a free art movement combining art exhibitions and installations with music and live sets. The project later grows into a union of several Italian drum & bass crews and becomes a small worldwide label and free net label. He also produces for the Subculture label.

From 2006 onwards, he releases music on Italian labels including Modulate Recordings and Transistor Technology, and later works with international labels such as Tilt Recordings, Combat Records and Basswerk Files. He is also linked with 0101 Music, Renegade Hardware and Subculture Music.

Style and collaborations

His work sits in drum and bass, electronic and neurofunk. He also makes collaborative tracks with artists from different countries, and performs across Italy.
