Maz

Maz is the name attached to several different recording artists, including a Polish hip-hop artist, a Luxembourg pop and electropop act, and other musicians working in trad-jazz, jazz, house and alt-pop. The available information identifies one Maz as a singer-songwriter from Brooklyn, New York who starts a group in 2009 to perform original compositions, and another as a Brazilian producer from Rio de Janeiro specialising in tropical house and releasing music on his Dawn Patrol label. There is also a Québec trad-jazz band called MAZ, whose line-up includes Marc Maziade, Pierre-Olivier Dufresne, Gabriel Godbout-Castonguay and Benoit Coulombe.

The Québec group’s first album, Telescope, receives nominations at the Juno Awards, the Canadian Folk Music Awards and the Indie Acoustic Project music awards. It follows with a second album, Chasse-Galerie, and its music combines traditional French-Canadian music with modal jazz and modern melodies.
