Mausoleum
Mausoleum is an American death metal group from Windber, Pennsylvania, active since 2001. The band is associated with the Johnstown, Pennsylvania area and plays a form of death metal rooted in the genre’s early, heavier and more stripped-down style rather than technical death metal.
Style and influences
The group’s sound draws on death metal and related horror imagery, with low-tuned guitars, harsh vocals and heavy drumming. Its stated influences include Death, Necrophagia, Entombed, Obituary and Autopsy, and its lyrics and themes connect to horror in film, novels and comics, especially zombie-related material.
Releases and lineup
Mausoleum’s release Nyctophilia includes four tracks: “Voices from Beyond,” “Shadows on the Grave,” “Shrieks of Fright” and “The Dark Abysmal.” “Voices from Beyond” is based on the 1991 Lucio Fulci film. The release is presented as a precursor to the band’s third full-length album. At that point, the lineup includes Craig Stiles on vocals and guitar, Adam Kegg on guitar, Rob Yench on bass and Chris “Warhead” Demydenko on drums.
Context
The band is described as part of an underground death metal scene and has a clear horror-cult identity, with artwork credited to Mosaeye Art & Design and a release planned through Behind the Mountain Records of Poland.
