Maud The Moth

Maud The Moth is a German metal band based in Hamburg and active since 2012. The project begins in 2010 as the solo work of Madrid-born musician Amaya López-Carromero, who also performs as HealthyLiving. It develops from a one-woman setup built around piano, voice and a looper, and later appears in duo and trio forms.

Style and approach

The project keeps a raw and intimate character, with songs that move away from standard pop structures. Its sound draws on jazz, classical music, avant-garde, soul and, in a more conceptual than formal sense, metal. The act is described as evolving and changing in form over time.

Releases and response

The debut album, Home Futile Home, appears in 2011 and is co-edited by Nooirax, Noma Recs. and Excellent Recs. It attracts attention from Spanish specialist music press including Mondosonoro, H magazine, Rolling Stone Spain and Calle 20, and the project receives strong reviews for both studio and live work.

The second studio release, The Inner Wastelands, takes a more atmospheric and delicately built approach. It is recorded and produced in Gothenburg by Crispin Anderson, with work on the album beginning in Spain and finishing in Sweden over a period of more than two years.

Maud The Moth tours in Spain, Portugal, France and the UK, where it is based. Its later release The Distaff appears in 2025.
