Matthias Meyer

Matthias Meyer is a German DJ, producer and artist from Lüneburg, near Hamburg. He develops his sound through house and techno, with the provided genre tags also placing him in minimal, minimal techno, electronic, deep house and tech house.

Background and early activity

As a music fan, he is drawn to the hi-tech sounds of Detroit and Chicago and to the club culture of Hamburg. He helps promote that scene locally through the Sfunkt DJ collective, organising parties in areas where electronic music is less established. With the Sfunkt crew and his close friend and later production partner Patlac, he begins playing larger venues and builds a stronger profile.

Releases and production

His debut track, Reichenbach, appears in 2006 on a Hamburg label and reflects a mix of Detroit influence, German electronic experimentation and a bigger-room club approach. His second release, Voltage, follows with a melodic, uplifting techno sound. In 2008, Tout Va Bien becomes a key track in defining his direction, with a long, percussive structure, detailed arrangement and organic textures.

He later collaborates with Patlac on Skipper, which is released on the Spezial offshoot label, alongside the track Salt City. These releases emphasise his focus on groove, drama, textured sound and emotive, rolling club music.

DJ approach

As a DJ, Meyer is known for sets built around evolving grooves and emotional, story-like development rather than pop-oriented shortcuts. His work attracts requests for original tracks and remixes, and he is presented as an artist who takes time over production and keeps the groove at the centre of his music.
