Mary Spender is a singer-songwriter from Brighton, United Kingdom. She is known for a style that draws on a wide range of popular music, with her songwriting and vocal delivery compared to Debbie Harry and Tracy Chapman, and her guitar playing compared to John Mayer and Joni Mitchell.
Background
She studies classical music at the University of Bristol and records the Memories EP with fellow student Jake Bright, who also performs with Alms, Dastards and Three Colours Blue. She is born in 1990 and is originally from Salisbury.
Collaborations and covers
Spender works with Leo Moracchioli at Frog Leap Studios on versions of “Sultans of Swing”, “Fast Car” and “It’s A Hard-Knock Life”. She also appears with Rob Scallon on “Amy’s Song” and “I Put A Spell On You” as part of Double Sided Guitar, performs “Carry Me Away” with The Andertons Band, and records a cover of “Dreams” with Peter Honore.
