Mary Middlefield

Mary Middlefield is a singer-songwriter, violinist and multi-instrumentalist from Lausanne, Switzerland. Born Maria Mitterfellner, she is German-born and grows up in Lausanne, where she begins with violin and piano at the age of five. She spends much of her childhood studying classical music before teaching herself guitar and moving into songwriting.

Style and songwriting

Her music combines indie rock, indie folk and alternative pop with a classical background. It is marked by string arrangements, varied instrumentation and lyrics that focus on love, heartbreak, identity and personal growth.

Releases

Middlefield releases her debut album, Thank You Alexander, in 2023. This is followed by the EP Poetry (for the scorned and lonely) in 2024 and the album Will You Take Me As I Am? in 2026. Tracks associated with the album include The Feast, Summer affair and Bite me.

Live performance

She also develops a reputation for energetic live performances and appears at festivals including Glastonbury and the Montreux Jazz Festival, as well as the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
