Martin Carr

Martin Carr is a British musician and songwriter from Thurso, Scotland, who is raised in Wallasey on the Wirral. He is the chief songwriter and lead guitarist with The Boo Radleys, and is also associated with Boo! Productions Inc. Born in 1968, he studies at St. Mary’s College, Wallasey Village.

The Boo Radleys

Carr plays an early live show with The Boo Radleys at The Grand nightclub in New Brighton. In the band, he writes the lyrics and is known for helping to push the group beyond its shoegazing roots through an interest in electronic experimentation, jazz and hip-hop. Although he rarely sings lead vocals in The Boo Radleys, he is a central writer and guitarist in the group.

Solo work as bravecaptain

After The Boo Radleys split, Carr begins a solo career under the name bravecaptain, a name taken from a song by the U.S. band fIREHOSE. His solo recordings are generally more electronic than his earlier work and feature Carr himself on lead vocals more often than in The Boo Radleys.

Albums and releases

In 2008, Carr records a new album in Cardiff with producer Charlie Francis and a group of friends. He first plans to release it through the Bandstocks scheme, but later abandons that approach. He then releases Ye Gods (and little fishes) in July 2009 on his own imprint, Sonny Boy Records, with State 51 handling distribution. He also posts new material on his Myspace page.
