Marriages
Marriages is a Los Angeles post-rock and shoegaze group active from 2011. The band forms around Emma Ruth Rundle on guitar and vocals and Greg Burns on bass, both of whom previously play in the post-rock quintet Red Sparowes. The group’s line-up also includes drummer Dave Clifford; an earlier version of the band includes Andrew Clinco on drums. Clifford also plays with Rundle in the Nocturnes and has also been part of Red Sparowes.
Formation and releases
Marriages forms in late 2011 and records its debut quickly with engineer Toshi Kasai, whose credits include work with Melvins, Big Business and Tool. The first release, Kitsune, comes out on Sargent House across LP, CD and download in 2012. The band’s second release, Salome, appears in 2015, preceded by the single Skin earlier that year. The group also has releases available through Bandcamp.
Connections
Marriages is signed to Sargent House, the label also associated with Red Sparowes. The band’s sound develops from the close musical connections between its members, with Rundle and Burns sharing a background in Red Sparowes and Clifford bringing further links through both Red Sparowes and the Nocturnes.
