Marnie

Marnie is the stage name used by Helen Marnie, a British musician from Glasgow, Scotland. She is best known as the lead vocalist of Ladytron, and also contributes keyboards, synthesizers and songwriting to the group. She studies music at the University of Liverpool, where she receives a BA in pop music, and she is classically trained on piano.

Ladytron

In 1999, Daniel Hunt and Reuben Wu meet Helen Marnie and Mira Aroyo and form Ladytron in the United Kingdom. Marnie becomes the band’s lead singer and remains one of its songwriters and keyboard players. Her work with the group sits within electronic music, with associations to synthpop, electropop and new wave.

Solo work

Marnie begins a solo career in 2012. Her debut solo album, Crystal World, is self-released in 2013 through PledgeMusic. The album is produced in Reykjavik, Iceland by Daniel Hunt in collaboration with the Icelandic musician Barði Jóhannsson. Her first solo single, “The Hunter,” is issued with a music video directed by Michael Sherrington, and she later premieres the song “Wolves” in 2014.

Background and influences

She spends her formative years in Glasgow. Her musical influences include Kate Bush, Maria Callas and Joni Mitchell.
