Mark Sixma is a Dutch trance DJ and producer from the Netherlands, born in 1983 and raised in Breda. He also records as M6, and his early interest in trance grows out of his upbringing in the same city as DJ Tiësto.

Early development

Mark Sixma begins DJing at high school parties and in the local club Spock before moving into production. His background in classical piano music is described as an important part of his early development as a producer.

Releases and label work

He first appears on record with a collaboration with Def Tactical and a Project 6 EP on Five AM Records. He then releases the M6 track Destination 6, followed by Fade 2 Black, which is selected as Tune of the Week on Armin van Buuren’s A State Of Trance. His next M6 single is signed to Armada Music.

His music also appears on labels including Armada, Blackhole, Spinnin’, High Contrast and Flashover.

Support and collaborations

Armin van Buuren features Mark Sixma’s tracks on his annual A State Of Trance compilation for three consecutive years, and also uses one of his tunes in a Wii game. Van Buuren later gives him the chance to remix Minack, his collaboration with Ferry Corsten.

His tracks receive support from a range of major trance and electronic DJs including Tiësto, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Gareth Emery, Paul van Dyk, Above & Beyond, Sander van Doorn and Judge Jules.

DJ career and radio

As a DJ, he performs internationally, including tours in India, Brazil, Russia, Italy, the UK and Belgium, as well as an appearance at ASOT 550 in the Netherlands. He also presents the monthly radio show Solid Sounds, which is broadcast on six radio stations in the USA, Greece, the Netherlands, the UK and Germany, and reaches more than 100,000 listeners each month across FM and internet broadcasts.
