Mark Henning is a Chicago musician and songwriter who works in minimal, techno, minimal techno, tech house and electronic music. He is associated with London and has spent much of his life in England, while also drawing on German techno roots and later relocating to Berlin.
Career
Henning builds his reputation through production, DJing and live performance. He releases music on a range of European labels, including Soma, Cynosure, Trapez, Freude am Tanzen, Foundsound, Einmaleins, Frankie and Hypercolour. His debut album appears on Soma Recordings, a UK label, and his tracks also feature on FABRIC and M-NUS compilations.
He tours his live PA internationally, with performances in places including Australia, Japan, Russia and the United States. He also holds a residency at the HOME events near Frankfurt in Germany.
Style and reception
His music sits between house and techno, with elements described through futuristic bleeps, off-kilter rhythms, funk, darkness, groove and deep bass. His records receive regular support from Ricardo Villalobos, Craig Richards, Akufen, Mr C and Richie Hawtin, and his tracks also receive radio play in various countries.
Performances and remixes
He plays at clubs including Fabric, Watergate, Privilege, Bar 25, The Egg, Panorama Bar, The Arches and Harry Klein. As a remixer, he reworks tracks by Gaetano Parisio, Mr. G, Brett Johnson, Tigerskin and Chris Fortier.
