Mare

Mare is a name used by more than one act. One is a black metal band from Trondheim, Norway, with members also involved in other parts of the Norwegian scene, including Kaosritual, Celestial Bloodshed, Grenjar and Black Majesty. Another is a progressive sludge band from Oakville and Burlington in Canada, led by Tyler Semrick-Palmateer, who previously sings in the tech-metal band The End. The verified facts indicate a US rapper under this name, but no further details are provided.

Norwegian black metal band

The Norwegian Mare operates in black metal and is associated with the Trondheim scene. Its members also play in other notable Norwegian bands, among them Kaosritual, Celestial Bloodshed, Grenjar and Black Majesty. The group is linked with the language and imagery of Nidrosian black metal, using references to darkness, ritual and death in its presentation.

Canadian progressive sludge band

The Canadian Mare is a progressive sludge project based in Oakville and Burlington. Tyler Semrick-Palmateer fronts the band and brings together sludge, doom metal and other textures that resist simple genre labels. His vocal style continues from his work with The End, particularly the album Transfer Trachea Reverberations from Point: False Omniscient.

The band releases a five-song self-titled EP on Translation Loss Records, which Hydra Head later reissues. It also records a cover of Night Goat for a tribute album to The Melvins compiled by Fractured Transmitter Records. In 2007, Tyler says the project is over because of a lack of motivation to write and record more material, while also noting an intention to collaborate with Caleb Collins in the future. Caleb Collins later joins Circle Takes The Square.
