Marcus Miller is a jazz musician, composer and producer from Brooklyn, United States, born in 1959. He is best known as a bass guitarist associated with Miles Davis and David Sanborn. His work sits within contemporary jazz, jazz, jazz fusion and jazz-funk.

Instruments and style

Miller is classically trained as a clarinetist and also plays bass, keyboards, saxophone and guitar. He is also a singer. His main instrument is the electric bass, which is central to his work. He develops slap bass technique and is known for his fretless bass playing, which extends the instrument into settings and genres where it is not usually heard.
