Marcel Woods is a Dutch electronic music DJ and producer from the Netherlands, associated with trance, hard trance, tech trance and techno. He works under the Musical Madness name and is known for a style he describes as “raw and energetic”, while also rejecting easy genre labels and preferring to work outside fixed categories.
Career
Woods builds a reputation on club-oriented trance and techno productions as well as DJ sets. He is described as a down-to-earth figure with a growing profile in the Dutch trance scene, and he is credited with a substantial run of dancefloor tracks. From 2004 onwards, the singles he releases reach number one in various national and international charts.
He heads major festivals, including Mysteryland and DanceValley in the same season, which places him among the better-known trance-focused DJs in the Netherlands. His performances take him across Europe and further afield, including Asia, North and South America and Australia, with appearances at small clubs as well as large outdoor events.
Recordings and releases
Woods produces what is described as one of the most downloaded tracks ever on the DJ Download Portal. His 2006 Trance Energy anthem “Advanced” becomes his best-selling track, and “Monotone” is named BBC Radio 1’s Essential Tune by Pete Tong in early 2006.
His planned compilation CD reflects his approach to dance music as a whole and includes several of his own productions, among them “Accelerate”, “Don’t Tar Me With The Same Brush” and “Yelling @ The Neighbours”, along with remixes of “Advanced” and “Cherry Blossom”.
Style and label
Although he is linked with trance and techno, Woods resists being confined to one tag. The Musical Madness banner is presented as the guiding idea behind his work, and it is also his listed label association.
