Marcel Dettmann is a German techno producer and DJ from Pößneck, Berlin, born in 1977. He is a resident DJ at Berghain in Berlin and is closely associated with the city’s club culture.

Career

Dettmann begins DJing in 1994 and holds a residency at Berlin’s Ostgut, later Berghain, from the club’s opening in 1999. He starts producing and releasing tracks and remixes in 2006. His work is rooted in the Berlin techno scene and in the wider development of electronic music.

He is influenced by EBM and wave music, and comes into contact with the first wave of techno in early 1990s Berlin. He is also involved with Hard Wax in Berlin, where he supports the ongoing exploration of electronic music.

Labels and releases

Dettmann runs his own label, MDR, which also appears as Marcel Dettmann Records. The label serves as his main outlet for releases, alongside Ostgut Ton. He is also associated with Bad Manners Records.

Style
