Marc Marzenit is an electronic music artist from Barcelona, Spain, born in 1983. He grows up in Barcelona and later moves with his family to Mollerussa in 1995, before returning to Barcelona in 2003.

Early musical development

As a child, he experiments with an Atari 1040ST, a Casio PT1 and a “playskool” tape deck. In his teens he listens to the Alan Parsons Project and Pink Floyd. He studies solfeggio and piano for seven years at a local school in Mollerussa, and begins composing classical music. He later gets a Casio HT-6000 synthesizer and, at 15, his first personal computer, which leads him to make music using software including Audio Mulch, Cubase and Fruity Loops.

Training and first steps in electronic music

In 1998 he attends Sónar in Barcelona and gains an Akai Remix sample library, which expands his production tools. He also takes a Cubase course at the University of Lleida, registering under his mother’s name because of his age, and starts teaching musical production at around the same time. Electronic music moves from a hobby to a vocation, and he begins performing live in local pubs and raves. After gaining experience, he presents live sets using a portable Apple iBook 12-inch computer.

Work as producer, technician and teacher

Back in Barcelona from 2003, he studies Audio Engineering and Sound Technology while working as a sound technician at the Mollerussa theatre. He also teaches musical production in Lleida. His work extends beyond club music into TV and radio advertising, as well as audiovisual projects.

Releases, labels and performances

Marzenit builds a profile in Spain’s electronic scene with relatively few records, but performs several times at Florida 135 and also appears abroad in Berlin at Zurmöbelfabrik and Pulp Mansion. His music draws attention from labels including Miga and Votox. He helps found the label Paradigma Musik with three other colleagues, with support from Kompakt. Through Paradigma Musik he releases his first EP, Trozitos de navidad.
