Marc Kinchen
Marc Kinchen, also known as MK, is a house and EDM producer and DJ from Detroit, United States. Born in 1972, he works as a solo artist and is also associated with the projects Separate Minds, Pleasure State and Power 41. He releases music on Area 10 and Kick Label.
Early recordings and chart success
Kinchen reaches the US Billboard Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart at No. 1 in 1993 and 1994 with “Always” and “Love Changes”. On both tracks, the lead vocals come from Alana Simon and the releases are credited to MK featuring Alana. The pair also record “Burning”, which becomes an underground house anthem. “Always” later reaches No. 69 on the UK Singles Chart.
Other releases and aliases
He also appears on the dance chart with “4 You” under the pseudonym 4th Measure Men. In addition to his own recordings, he works under the MK name across house music production and DJing.
Remixes
Kinchen is widely known for remix work for other artists. His remix of Celine Dion’s “Misled” becomes Dion’s first and only No. 1 on the Billboard Dance/Club Play chart. His versions of Betty Boo’s “Thing Goin’ On” and Sofia Shinas’s “The Message” also chart on that list, and his remix of Jody Watley’s “Your Love Keeps Working On Me” reaches No. 2. He also remixes tracks for Lana Del Rey, Dev, Enrique Iglesias, Sky Ferreira, Ellie Goulding, Jamie Jones, Lee Foss and Tricky.
Notable remix work
One of his best-known remixes is for the Nightcrawlers’ “Push the Feeling On”, which later forms the basis of Pitbull’s “Hotel Room Service”. That remix becomes a major UK hit, reaching No. 3, and Kinchen also assists Nightcrawlers singer John Reid on later releases, though they do not match that chart impact.
UK chart achievement
His remix of Storm Queen’s “Look Right Through” reaches No. 1 on the UK Singles Chart in 2013.
