Marbled

Marbled is an acoustic songwriter from north-east England, associated with York and with venues including The Duchess York and Fibbers. The project is described as a pirate-rocking acoustic troubadour style, built around high-strung guitar, tightly drawn melodies and songs that move between flawed folk and riot-scenario imagery. The writing and delivery use stream-of-consciousness phrasing, with a focus on dense, fast-moving couplets and ideas shaped into unusual song forms.

Activity and work

Marbled develops material in York and performs songs that aim for tension and surprise rather than polished simplicity. The artist has supported Fionn Regan, John Power, Liam Frost, Pete Doherty, GlasVegas, Howard Elliott Payne, David Ford and Jack Penate. Releases include the Milk Teeth EP and the Rodeo Falls EP, with further EPs at different stages of development and recording.

Style and output

The songs are characterised by forceful acoustic playing, compressed melodies and lyrics that mix folk writing with more abrasive, unsettled scenes. The overall approach is presented as original and sometimes disconcerting, with material built to catch listeners off guard rather than follow a predictable pattern.
