Mar

Mar is a post-rock group active from 2004, associated with ambient and experimental music. The project is put together by Kyle Reidy and appears as part of a name shared by several unrelated acts.

Formation and recording

The group is assembled by Kyle Reidy in late 2003 and records its debut album in Reykjavik, Iceland, in February 2005. That recording takes place at Syrland Studio, with engineering by Axel “Flex” Arnason. The album is later mastered by Dave Harris at Studio B Mastering in Charlotte, North Carolina, and manufactured by Media Evolved in Charlotte in early 2006.

Releases and collaborators

Mar’s debut album, The Silence, includes contributions from Jimmy LaValle of The Album Leaf, Gunnar Tynes and Samuli Kosminen of múm, and support from Sigur Rós. The follow-up album, The Sound, is recorded in a cabin in the middle of nowhere at the end of 2007. That release features Zoë Keating, known for work with Imogen Heap and Rasputina, and Anton Patzner of Bright Eyes.
