Manuela is the stage name of Doris Inge Wegener, a German schlager singer, composer and guitarist from Berlin. Born in 1943 and dying in 2001, she works first in a factory before becoming lead singer in several bands. She is discovered in a Berlin nightclub in 1962.

Career

In 1963, she records a German cover version of “Blame It on the Bossa-Nova”, the Eydie Gormé song. She later travels to Hollywood to study English with actress Kim Novak. In the mid-1980s, she returns with a comeback centred on “Blame It on the Bossa-Nova” and other songs including “Ich gehe noch zur Schule”, “Schwimmen lernt man in See”, “Schneeman”, “Küsse untern Regenbogen”, “Monsieur Dupont”, “Wenn es Nacht wird in Harlem”, “Auf der Stufen zur Akropolis”, “Seemann-Sailor” and “Wenn ich erst wieder Boden spür”.
