Mania

Mania is a name used by several unrelated acts, including black metal, power electronics, punk, power metal and electronic projects, as well as pop and rap groups. One of the listed acts is a Cascadian one-man black metal and dark ambient project associated with Nate Myers of Leech and other bands. Another is a Texas-based noise and power electronics project by Keith Brewer, linked to Taint. There is also a short-lived British girl group connected to Xenomania, a British UK82 punk band, a Long Beach punk band, a German power metal band from Hamburg, a Spanish new-wave and synth-pop group, an electronic ADHDcore project from Salt Lake City, and a rap group from Helsinki founded in 2017.

The British girl group version of Mania consists of long-time Xenomania collaborators Niara Scarlett and Giselle Somerville. It releases its only single in August 2004, and its debut single, Gypsy Love, reaches number 29 that month. This success leads to the cancellation of the planned album Do You Know Your Daughter's On The Roof. Material from that album later circulates online, including the unreleased second single “Money In My Pocket”, which Frank later records for Totally Frank and the album Devil's Got Your Gold. Frank’s debut single “I’m Not Shy” is also originally written and recorded by Mania.

The British UK82 band Mania starts in October 1981 and writes songs about unity and anti-authoritarian ideas. It releases two demos in 1981 and appears on A Country Fit for Heroes Vol. 2 and on the compilation Punk dead - nah mate the smell is jus summink in yer underpants, innit. It also appears on the Punk Is Dead 12-inch on Pax Records with the tracks “Stick Together” and “Power To The People”, and records “Blood Money” for A Country Fit for Heroes Vol. 2. The band plays shows with acts including U.K. Subs, The Upstarts, Toy Dolls and Old Riot Squad.

The German power metal group from Hamburg issues Message/Deliverance as a single in 1987, Wizard of the Lost Kingdom as an EP in 1988, and Changing Times as an album in 1989. The Long Beach, California punk band also releases a demo, Radiation Acid Clash, in 2011.

The Helsinki band describes its style as “rap & roll”, and the note on the name Mania also identifies a performance of “Gypsy Love”.
